Vancouver-based Dabble DB has been letting people create sophisticated online databases for a while now. As Andrew’s post explains, they’ve been listening to their users and adding features left and right but people wanted more, they wanted pages:
Dabble Pages are our way to let core Dabble users support satellite users. Rather than clutter up the core application with complicated access control or user interface configuration, we decided to let core users build out interface for satellite users, exposing exactly what is necessary. We had to make sure that building pages was simple in the same way that the rest of Dabble was simple: nothing that looks like code, direct manipulation metaphors, incrementality.
What we’ve released today is just the first step down this path. Via a drag ‘n drop interface, users can create pages with custom forms that can be shared with particular people or exposed publicly, with some very simple provisions for workflow tying them together. Luke has written about the current nuts and bolts in our forum, and we’ll be adding more and more functionality to them in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. Source: Dabble DB Blog: Dabble Pages
Like YikeSite, Dabble Pages is based off the idea of simplicity. For a group of Dabble users, dealing with code and entry screens isn’t a problem, but for others they just want to get the data entered.
The core, of course, is that the folks at Dabble DB listened to their users and tried to meet their needs. They also, which is often more rare, saw that their original idea had been taken to a place that they hadn’t originally thought of and adapted.
Gotta love Web 2.0…especially the Vangroovy kind.
